SEBI Grade A Exam Pattern 2024
The SEBI Grade A exam can be counted among the top-level examinations, as it allows you to serve in one of the largest financial organizations in India. SEBI Grade A exam pattern consists of three phases -
- Phase 1 - Online Exam (Objective)
- Phase 2 - Online Exam (Objective + Descriptive)
- Phase 3 - Interview

SEBI Grade A Phase 1 Exam Pattern
Phase 1 of the SEBI Grade A 2023 exam will be qualifying in nature. The marks scored by the candidates in Phase 1 will only be considered for shortlisting for Phase 2. SEBI Grade A Phase 1 will consist of an online screening examination consisting of two papers, which will be objective in nature. Paper 1 will be common for all streams whereas Paper 2 will be subject/stream-specific with multiple-choice questions. For further details on the SEBI Grade A pattern, refer to the table below.

Please note:
- There will be a minimum cut-off percentage criteria in both Paper 1 & 2.
- There will be a cut-off of a minimum of 30% for Paper 1 and a cut-off of a minimum of 40% for Paper 2 in Phase 1.
- There will not be any sectional cut-off in Phase 1.
- Candidates will be required to score a separate cut-off in each of the papers.
SEBI Grade A Phase 2 Exam Pattern
SEBI Grade A Phase 2-Paper 1 will be common for all the streams whereas Paper 2 will be stream-specific and will contain questions from the specific streams. All the papers have separate timings.
Furthermore, the marks scored in SEBI Grade A Phase 2 will be considered while calling for the Interview. Phase 2 will consist of a descriptive English test in Paper 1 and an online objective test in Paper 2. Most importantly, the Phase 2 will decide your final selection.

Please note:
- For Phase 2, new Hall TIckets will be issued.
- Paper 1 and Paper 2 of SEBI Grade A Phase 2 will be conducted in various shifts, the timings of which will be intimated in the Hall Ticket. Paper 2 for the IT stream will be held on a separate day.
- For Paper 2 of the Information Technology stream, a duration of 180 minutes will be allotted.
- You need to secure a separate cut-off in each paper as well as an overall aggregate cut-off of 50% in SEBI Grade A Phase 2.
SEBI Grade A Interview
After the SEBI Grade A Phase 2 exam is over, all the shortlisted candidates will be called for the next stage i.e SEBI Grade A Interview. This will be the third and the last phase of the SEBI Grade A recruitment 2023 and will work as the deciding factor for the final selection.
Candidates may opt for either Hindi or English as the medium of language for the Interview. The weightage of marks obtained in the SEBI Officer Grade A exam for Phase 2 and Interview is 85:15. Please bear in mind that SEBI reserves the right to modify the selection procedure if deemed fit.
SEBI Grade A Marking Scheme
SEBI Grade A Phase 1 will have objective type of questions in both papers. Phase 2 will also consist of two papers where Paper 1 will be a Descriptive English Test and Paper 2 will be objective type. The marking scheme for SEBI Grade A and the penalty for wrong answers is as follows.

SEBI Grade A Exam Language
Both the objective and descriptive tests of the SEBI Grade A exam will be conducted online. Kindly note, all questions in SEBI Grade A Phase 1 and SEBI Grade A Phase 2 exams, except the Test of English Language in Phase 1 & Descriptive Test of English in Phase 2, will be bilingual i.e. in English and Hindi.
