    The Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) is an Indian state-owned insurance group and investment company headquartered in Mumbai. It is the largest insurance company in the country and thus its recruitment notification is awaited by most of the aspirants.

    For this recruitment cycle, LIC has released 410 vacancies for AAO (Specialist) across different streams such as Chartered Accountant, Company Secretary, Actuarial, Insurance, and Legal. In addition, 81 posts are open for Assistant Engineers in Civil and Electrical disciplines.

    The distribution of vacancies also includes reservations for SC, ST, OBC, EWS, and PwBD candidates, as per government rules.

    LIC AAO Specialist Exam Pattern 2025

    The LIC AAO Specialist exam is expected to be an objective-type online exam. The LIC AAO (Specialist) exam will take place in three phases as mentioned below-

    • Phase 1- Preliminary Exam

    Phase I – LIC AAO Specialist Preliminary Exam 2025

    • Mode: Online, objective type.

    • The English Language test is qualifying in nature and its marks are not added to the final prelims score.

    Please Note:

    The LIC AAO (Specialist) exam will be bilingual in nature i.e. in each section questions will be asked in English and Hindi both. But, the English Language section will be in English only.

    English Language Test will be qualifying in nature and therefore marks will not be counted for ranking.

    LIC AAO (Legal) – Preliminary Exam Pattern

    • Mode: Online, Objective type.
    • Duration: 60 minutes (1 hour) with separate timing for each section.
    • Total Questions: 100.
    • Total Marks: 70 (English Language and General Awareness are qualifying).
    • Negative Marking: ¼ mark deducted for each wrong answer.

    Sections:

    • Reasoning Ability – 35 questions, 35 marks, 20 minutes.
    • English Language – 35 questions, 35 marks, 20 minutes (qualifying only).
    • General Awareness – 30 questions, 30 marks, 20 minutes (qualifying only).

    Shortlisting: Candidates around 20 times the number of vacancies will be called for the Mains.

    Phase II – LIC AAO Specialist Main Exam 2025

    • The LIC AAO mains exam includes objective tests and a descriptive paper. Both are conducted online in a single sitting.
    • No negative marking in this stage.
    • Candidates must clear each section individually and also secure the overall cut-off.
    • The descriptive paper will only be evaluated for those who qualify in the objective test.

    Objective Test (150 Marks)

    • Reasoning Ability – 30 questions, 30 marks
    • General Awareness with special reference to Insurance and Financial Markets – 20 questions, 20 marks
    • Professional Knowledge (based on chosen specialization: CA, CS, Actuarial, Insurance, Legal, Engineering) – 50 questions, 100 marks

    Descriptive Test (150 Marks after scaling)

    • Professional Knowledge Descriptive – 4 questions out of 6, 50 marks (scaled to 150)
    • English Language (Essay, Report, Precis, Email Writing) – 2 questions, 25 marks (qualifying only, not counted for ranking)

    LIC AAO (Legal) – Main Exam Pattern

    Mode: Online (Objective + Descriptive, conducted in one sitting).

    Duration: 2 hours 30 minutes total.

    Negative Marking: No negative marking in the Main Examination.

    1. Objective Test (150 marks)

    Reasoning Ability – 30 questions, 30 marks, 20 minutes.

    General Knowledge, Current Affairs, and Insurance/Financial Market Awareness – 30 questions, 30 marks, 20 minutes.

    Professional Knowledge (Law) – 50 questions, 90 marks, 40 minutes.

    2. Descriptive Test

    Professional Knowledge (Descriptive) –

    • 4 questions out of 6, carrying 50 marks (scaled to 150 marks).

    LIC AAO (Specialist) Salary Structure

    The Assistant Administrative Officer (AAO – Specialist) in LIC receives one of the most attractive pay packages in the public sector. As per the official notification, the salary and benefits are as follows:

    Basic Pay

    • Starting basic pay: ₹88,635/- per month
    • Pay scale: ₹88,635 – 4,385(14) – 1,50,025 – 4,750(4) – 1,69,025

    This means:

    • Annual increments of ₹4,385 for 14 years (till ₹1,50,025)
    • Followed by annual increments of ₹4,750 for 4 years (till ₹1,69,025)

    Total Emoluments

    Approx. ₹1,26,000/- per month in an “A-Class” city (including allowances such as House Rent Allowance, City Compensatory Allowance, etc.).

    LIC AAO (Specialist) Probation Period 2025

    After appointment, an Assistant Administrative Officer (Specialist) will be placed on probation for 1 year from the date of joining. This probation may be extended up to 2 years if required, depending on performance and organizational needs.

    During probation, candidates will undergo continuous assessment as per LIC’s policies. If a candidate fails to achieve the minimum performance standards, their services may be terminated during this period. The decision of LIC regarding the satisfactory completion of probation is final and binding.

    LIC AAO (Specialist) Vacancy

    The official notification announces 410 vacancies for the post of Assistant Administrative Officer (Specialist). These openings are spread across different specialist streams.

    For AAO (Chartered Accountant), there are 30 posts in total, with 4 seats reserved for Scheduled Castes (SC), 2 for Scheduled Tribes (ST), 7 for Other Backward Classes (OBC), 3 for Economically Weaker Section (EWS), and 14 for Unreserved (UR) candidates.

    For AAO (Company Secretary), 10 positions are available. Out of these, 1 seat each is reserved for SC and ST, 2 for OBC, 1 for EWS, and 5 for UR candidates.

    For AAO (Actuarial), there are 30 posts. These include 4 seats for SC, 2 for ST, 7 for OBC, 3 for EWS, and 14 for UR candidates.

    The majority of the vacancies are in the AAO (Insurance Specialist) category, which has 310 posts. Within this, 45 seats are reserved for SC, 22 for ST, 77 for OBC, 34 for EWS, and 132 for UR candidates.

    For AAO (Legal), there are 30 vacancies. This includes 4 for SC, 2 for ST, 7 for OBC, 3 for EWS, and 14 for UR candidates.

    In addition to these, LIC has provided horizontal reservation for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities. Out of the total vacancies, 5 are reserved for candidates with Locomotor Disability (LD), 4 for those with Visual Impairment (VI), 4 for Hearing Impairment (HI), and 4 for Intellectual or Multiple Disabilities (ID/MD).
