RRB JE Highlights

Railway Recruitment Board or RRB are organizations under the Ministry of Railways, Government Of India to manage the appointment of new employees to work in Indian Railways.There is a total of 21 boards situated in different parts of India.

Every year RRB recruits an eligible candidate to its various post that includes Junior Engineer or JE, Junior Engineer (Information Technology) or JE(IT), Depot Material Superintendent or DMS and Chemical & Metallurgical Assistant or CMA. Besides this RRB also conducts the exam for recruitment of staff in the non-technical cadre and other categories.

RRB JE Notification

Every year RRB releases notification for the post of JE. This is a golden opportunity to work in the Railway Department for all the candidates who want to start their career in the government sector. RRB JE notification will have all the details that a candidate must go through before applying. Since RRB recruits staff in its various post which includes Junior Engineer or JE, Junior Engineer (Information Technology) or JE(IT), Depot Material Superintendent or DMS and Chemical & Metallurgical Assistant or CMA so a candidate should make sure for which post he/she is eligible.

RRB JE Exam Pattern

RRB JE exam will be conducted in two stages-1st -Computer Based Test or CBT and 2nd-Computer Based Test followed by Document Verification/Medical Examination as applicable.The venue,date and time for computer based test and document verification will be decided by the RRB and any request for a change of venue, date and shift will not be entertained.

RRB JE 1st Phase

The 1st stage of the RRB JE exam is of online mode ie computer based objective type. RRB JE 1st phase consists of four sections-Mathematics, General Science, General Awareness, Reasoning and General Intelligence.The total number of questions in the 1st phase of RRB JE is 100 with 90 minutes time limit for all the candidates except PwBD who have 120 minutes.This phase of RRB JE is of screening nature ie the normalized marks obtained in the 1st phase of RRB JE will only be used for shortlisting the candidate for 2nd stage of RRB JE.The questions for the first phase of RRB JE will be generally in accordance with the educational and/or minimum technical qualifications prescribed for the posts.There is a penalty of 1/3rd of the marks allotted in RRB JE first stage for every wrong answer.This Phase of RRB JE is common for all the posts.

RRB JE 2nd Phase

Candidates shortlisted for the 2nd Stage of RRB JE exam shall be 15 times the number of vacancies for each post in the respective categories.The 2nd phase of RRB JE will also be of objective type online mode. RRB JE second phase consists of five sections-Physics and Chemistry, General Awareness, Basics of Computer and Applications, Basics of Environment and Pollution Control,Technical Abilities.The time limit for the second phase of RRB JE is 120 minutes for 150 questions.A candidate will have the facility of using the virtual calculator in the second stage of RRB JE.1/3rd of the marks allotted for each question shall be deducted for each wrong answer as a penalty in RRB JE second phase.Technical abilities questions will be framed in the syllabus defined for various Exam Groups given.

RRB JE Document Verification/Medical Examination

A candidate will be called for document verification where he/she has to undergo a medical fitness test to be appointed as RRB JE.This medical fitness test for RRB JE will be conducted by the Railway Administration to make sure that the candidate is medically fit to carry out the duties assigned to him/her.The medical standards are given below:

Ex-Servicemen will have a different medical standard which is available on the official website of the railway.The Candidate will be called for DV/Medical Exam based on the normalized marks obtained by him/her in the 2nd phase of RRB JE.

RRB JE Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility is the most important part of any competitive exam. A candidate should ensure that he/she fulfils all the eligibility criteria related to the age and education or any other as asked in the RRB JE recruitment so that the candidature is not cancelled at a later stage.

RRB JE Age Criteria

The age limit for RRB JE lies between 18 to 33 for general category candidate as on the date that will be mentioned in the official notification of the RRB JE. A candidate should ensure that he/she lies within that age limit so that his/her candidature is not cancelled later. Further insight can be get from the table below-

RRB JE Age Relaxation

Like all other competitive exams, RRB JE also has a provision of age relaxation for reserved categories.This age relaxation is on the upper age limit. If a candidate is eligible for age relaxation on more than one ground, he/she would be provided with the highest age relaxations for which he/she is eligible. No age relaxation is allowed to SC/ST/OBC-NCL (Non Creamy Layer) candidates if they apply against unreserved vacancies.

All the candidate should ensure that they possess the required educational/technical qualification before filling the online application form of RRB JE. Since different posts will be notified in the RRB JE recruitment so each post has a different educational qualification.Those candidate awaiting their final results need not apply for RRB JE.The table given below has further details.

RRB JE Salary

A newly recruited RRB JE will initially receive a salary of around Rs 35,400 plus other admissible allowances as provided by the RRB.This salary of RRB JE is same for all the candidate irrespective for the post for which he/she has applied.

RRB JE Vacancy

The total number of vacancies in RRB JE for the different post is different. The number of vacancies for RRB JE will also differ categories wise. Besides this, the number of vacancies differs within reserved categories also. Every year region wise cut off for RRB JE is released by the RRB and by going through it a candidate can have an idea which region has what cut off. Previous year cut off not only helps a candidate to know what is the safest number of questions to attempt but also to know whether RRB JE has sectional cutoff or overall cutoff or both. How to Apply: Apply Now (Stepwise)

Candidates can apply for the notified posts of RRB JE only through online mode by visiting the official website of RRB. Candidate should read all the information and instructions details thoroughly before filling the RRB JE application form. Further details can be get from below:

  • A candidate should select the RRB to which he/she wish to apply.
  • A candidate should ensure he/she select correct RRB as once selected it cannot be changed after the preliminary registration of RRB JE is complete and the registration number is allotted.
  • Confirm that you have understood the instructions clearly by clicking on the checkbox.
  • Click on new registration and enter the name, date of birth and father’s name mother’s name, aadhaar number and other information asked and click on submit for registration.
  • A candidate should ensure that before submitting for RRB JE registration all the information furnished are correct as the details cannot be cannot later.
  • A candidate email and mobile number should be verified during the RRB JE online application process with a One Time Password (OTP).
  • The candidate should enter the OTP send to proceed with the filling up of RRB JE application.
  • Candidates can proceed with the online application of RRB JE by clicking on the already registered option by entering the registration number and password.
  • Part I of RRB JE application form provide the details of educational qualification, gender, religion, category and age relaxation eligibility category and a candidate should fill it to proceed to Part II.
  • In Part II of RRB JE application form, exam group(If a candidate is eligible to more than one exam group),priority/ preferences for posts details have to be furnished.
  • On completion of RRB JE application details, the candidate will be directed to the payment page to choose payment mode which can be online as well as offline mode.
  • Chose the mode of payment and pay the RRB JE application fee.
  • A candidate paying RRB JE application fee offline have to furnish the bank details for refund of the RRB JE application fee in their online application form.
  • Scanned Documents in JPEG format of candidate photograph in color of size 20KB to 50KB, signature of size 10KB to 40KB, SC/ST Certificate (only for candidates seeking free travel pass) of size 50 to 100KB should be ready while filling the RRB JE application form.
  • A self declaration by the candidate should be submitted in the format provided in the RRB JE notification in the application form of RRB JE.PDF copy of the RRB JE application form can be saved by the candidate.

RRB JE Application FEE

An application form of RRB JE will not be accepted unless a candidate pays the application fee of RRB JE.The application fee for RRB JE is different for a different category.The application fee for RRB JE for candidates belonging to SC/ST/Female/Ex-Servicemen / PwBDs/Transgender/ Minorities/ Economically backward class is Rs 250 which will be refunded duly deducting bank charges as applicable, on appearing in 1st phase. Similarly the amount of Rs 400 will be refunded duly deducting bank charges out of Rs 500 for other candidates excluding above. Further details mentioned in the table below-

RRB JE Exam Language

English is the default language for RRB JE exam but in case the candidate wishes to choose any other language, then he/she can select from the drop down menu which contains all the list of languages.The languages listed for the RRB JE exam are Odia, Punjabi, Tamil,Hindi,Kannada,Assamese, Bengali,Gujarati,Konkani,Malayalam,Manipuri, Marathi,Telugu and Urdu.

RRB JE Admit Card

Admit cards for RRB JE will not be sent through the post. SMS and email messages will be sent to all eligible candidates about the RRB JE admit card on their registered mobile number and email id. All eligible candidates can download admit card from the RRBs websites about 10 days before the date of the CBT. Candidates should read the instructions on the RRB JE admit card carefully because failure to comply with the instructions may lead to cancellation of the candidate candidature. All candidates must bring the RRB JE admit card along with a valid photo proof in original to the examination hall, failing which candidates shall NOT be allowed to appear for the RRB JE CBT. RRB JE admit card will have all the details regarding the exam centre address,date of RRB JE exam ,reporting time etc.

RRB JE Results

RRB will release the JE exam result on the regional websites. The RRB JE result will be available as a pdf containing the roll number of the qualified candidates. Candidates who qualify the RRB JE CBT exam will be called for the next round which will again be an online mode objective type exam. After qualifying the second stage of RRB JE exam all the eligible candidates have to appear for Document Verification and Medical Examination as and when called by the RRB.
