RRB NTPC Exam Pattern 2024

The RRB NTPC Recruitment 2024 will take place in different phases and it will be a good idea to take a look at the RRB NTPC 2024 exam pattern for a better understanding of the exam. RRB conducts a computer-based examination for NTPC Recruitment which is held in four phases:

  • CBT 1 - Preliminary Test
  • CBT 2 - Main Test 
  • Typing Skill Test
  • Document Verification / Medical Test

The Typing Skill Test will be applicable to the posts of Senior Clerk cum Typist, Junior Accounts Assistant cum Typist, Senior Time Keeper, Junior Clerk cum Typist, Accounts Clerk cum Typist and Junior Time Keeper.

Computer-Based Aptitude Test or CBAT will be applicable for only those candidates who opt for the posts of Station Master and Traffic Assistant.

RRB NTPC Exam Pattern - CBT 1

The first phase of the RRB NTPC Examination is CBT-1 which will be an online preliminary examination that is common for all the posts mentioned in the official notification of RRB NTPC Recruitment 2024. The first stage of the computer-based test will be objective type and will include three sections- General Awareness, Mathematics & General Intelligence and Reasoning. There will be total of 100 questions in the test and each section will be allotted different marks. The time duration provided will be 90 minutes.

  • There will be a negative marking of 1/3 marks, which implies that for every incorrect answer 1/3 of the marks allotted to that question will be deducted. 
  • The marks obtained in the first stage will be normalized and based on that score you will be shortlisted for CBT 2.

RRB NTPC Exam Pattern - CBT 2

If you qualify the first stage, you will be required to appear in the 2nd stage CBT - the Main Test. The second stage (Main test) will also be an objective type which will consist of three sections: General Awareness, Mathematics & General Intelligence and Reasoning. All the sections will be allotted different marks and the total time will be 90 minutes. The total number of questions and total marks will be 120. The marks obtained in the Main examination will be normalized before releasing the final merit. The 2nd Stage CBT will take place for each of the 7th CPC Level i.e. Level 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 with increased difficulty level.

RRB NTPC Typing Skill Test (TST)

After both the stages of CBT are done, for some of the posts the typing skill test will also be held. The Typing Skill Test will be qualifying in nature and eight times the number of vacancies will be called for the typing test. You will be required to type 30 words per minute (WPM) in English or 25 WPM in Hindi on Personal Computer only without editing tools and spell check facility.

If you are permanently disabled due to Blindness/Low Vision, Cerebral Palsy & Loco Motor Disability with not less than 40% permanent disability you will be exempted from the Typing Test only after you produce a certificate pertaining to the test exemption issued by the Competent Medical Board.

RRB NTPC Computer Based Aptitude Test

If you opt for Traffic Assistant and Station Master you will also be required to appear in a Computer Based Aptitude Test on the basis of your performance in the 2nd Stage CBT. You need to score a minimum T-score of 42 marks in each of the test batteries to qualify. There is no facility of relaxation in minimum marks for any category of candidates.

RRB NTPC Document Verification

Based on your performance in the 2nd Stage CBT and other tests (as applicable) as per the posts, you will be called for document verification. In addition to this at the discretion of RRBs, candidates equal to 50% ( may increase or decrease at the discretion of RRBs) of the number of vacancies for various posts will also be called for document verification.
