The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) is our country’s maritime law enforcement and search and rescue agency. The Indian Coast guard was established by the Coast Guard Act, 1978 of the Parliament of India. It celebrated its foundation day on February 01, 1977. Indian Coast guard has jurisdiction over its territorial waters including its contiguous zone and exclusive economic zone. It operates under the Ministry of Defence.

Indian Coast guard has recently issued a notification regarding the recruitment of Navik (General Duty), Navik (Domestic Branch) and Yantrik posts. There are a total of 350 vacancies announced for these posts.  The first stage of the Indian Coast Guard exam is expected to be conducted in the month of September 2021. Notification 2021

The Indian Coast Guard (Ministry of Defence) has recently invited applications from Indian male citizens who are eligible for the posts of Navik (General Duty), Navik (Domestic Branch) and Yantrik. The online application window will open from July 02, 2021 to July 16, 2021. Candidates are advised to start applying online without any delay to avoid last-minute hassles. It is a golden opportunity for those who wish to join Indian Coast Guard and serve the nation. There are a total of 350 vacancies that have been announced for all three posts. For the post of Yantrik, there are different branches such as Mechanical, Electrical & Electronics for which separate vacancies have been notified. Exam Pattern 2021

The Indian Coast Guard recruitment process will consist of four stages:

  • Stage 1 - Written Examination
  • Stage 2 - Physical Fitness Test, Document Verification, Initial Medicals Examination
  • Stage 3 - Document Verification, Final Medicals, Submission of Original Document, Police Verification and Other Associated Forms.
  • Stage 4 - Training

The written exam in Stage 1 will be computer-based, having 5 sections with different subjects which will consist of objective-type questions with four options. Each question carries 1 mark with no negative marking in Stage 1 of the Indian Coast Guard recruitment process. All sections will comprise 50 marks except Section 1 which will be 60 marks. Similarly, for all the sections there will be a time limit of 30 minutes whereas for Section I there will be a time limit of 45 minutes available owing to more number of questions as compared to other sections.

The candidates who will be able to clear Stage 1 will move on to the next stage and so on till the final Stage 4 of the process which will require them to attend a training programme in INS Chilka.

Syllabus

For the Indian Coast exam 2021, it is advisable to get hold of the complete Indian Coast Gaurd exam syllabus of all the subjects so that you do not fall short of anything in your preparation phase. The notification has been released for Navik (General Duty), Navik(Domestic Branch) and Yantrik post. Exam Dates

The online application window for the Indian Coast Exam has already been started.  The last date to apply is July 16, 2021. The exam for the same is expected to be held in the month of September 2021. It is advised to fill the application form as soon as possible to avoid any last-minute rush.

Salary 

Being a central government job, the Indian Coast Gaurd offers a decent salary to its employees. Basic pay for each post i.e. Navik (General Duty), Navik (Domestic Branch) and Yantrik is different therefore, the salary slab also differs. The Pay Level for Navik (General Duty), Navik (Domestic Branch) is Level - 03 and for the Yantrik post, it is Level - 05.  Besides salary, the Indian Coast Guard also provides various perks and benefits to its employees. 

  • Navik (General Duty)- Basic pay is Rs. 21700/- (Pay Level-3) Allowances: Dearness Allowance and other allowances based on nature of duty/place of posting as per the prevailing regulations.
  • Navik (Domestic Branch)- Basic Pay is 21700/- (Pay Level-3) Allowances: Dearness Allowance and other allowances based on the nature of duty/place of posting as per the prevailing regulation.
  • Yantrik- Basic pay is Rs. 29200/- (Pay Level-5). In addition, you will be paid Yantrik pay @ Rs. 6200/- Allowances: Dearness Allowance and other allowances based on nature of duty/place of posting as per the prevailing regulation

Indian Coast Guard Eligibility Criteria

The Indian Coast Guard notification is out for three posts namely Navik (General Duty and Domestic branch) and Yantrik. Before applying online, you must ensure that you fulfil all the eligibility criteria with respect to education, age limit and others. The educational criteria for the Indian Coast Guard differ for all three posts. The minimum age to apply is 18 years and the maximum is 22 years as on the date mentioned in the official notification.

Is there any fee exemption for any of the candidates in the Indian Coast Guard recruitment process?

Yes. The candidates from Scheduled Castes / Scheduled Tribes are exempted from paying the exam application fee. Remaining candidates are required to pay an amount of Rs 250.

Is there any condition regarding the validity of the documents that have to be uploaded in the online application form of Indian Coast Guard?

A:  

Yes there is. All the documents (SC/ ST/OBC (Non-Creamy)/ EWS/ Marksheets/ Education Certificates) being uploaded while applying online for the Indian Coast Guard exam should be valid at least upto April 30, 2022. The date of issue of all these documents should be July 16, 2021 or before July 16.

Q10:  

If there is no vacancy reserved for a certain category among SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy)/EWS, can such candidates still apply?

A:  

Yes. Even if there is no vacancy reserved for any of the category of candidates for any post mentioned in the notification, such candidates can still apply but they will not be eligible for any kind of relaxation in that case. Also, the fee exemption for SC/ST candidates will still be valid.
