SEBI Grade A preparation on a budget works when you decide what deserves your money. Spending nothing is not the goal. Some parts of preparation are free and good. Others, mainly stream-paper coverage and evaluated descriptive practice, are hard to replace. This guide separates the two and ends with a worked cost example.

Many aspirants ask whether coaching is needed for SEBI Grade A. The answer depends on your gaps, your stream and your writing. Use this guide to test each need against its price. The cost section uses listed prices, so you can copy the method with current numbers.

Budget for the SEBI Grade A application fee first

SEBI’s 2025 notification set a non-refundable application fee cum intimation charge. Unreserved, OBC and EWS candidates pay Rs 1,000 plus 18% GST. SC, ST and PwBD candidates pay Rs 100 plus 18% GST. This is the one cost you cannot avoid.

The same notification lets you apply for a maximum of two streams, with a separate application and fee for each. A second stream doubles the SEBI Grade A application fee. It doubles the Paper 2 syllabus you must prepare. Add this fee to your budget before you pick any course, so the total stays honest.

Category (2025 notification) Fee GST at 18% Total per stream
Unreserved, OBC and EWS Rs 1,000 Rs 180 Rs 1,180
SC, ST and PwBD Rs 100 Rs 18 Rs 118

SEBI Grade A free preparation: what you can do at no cost

SEBI Grade A free preparation covers more ground than most aspirants expect. Start with these five steps before spending anything.

  • Read SEBI’s own documents. SEBI publishes the notification and the information handouts on sebi.gov.in. They give the exact paper formats, marks, cut-offs and typing rules. No coaching summary can match that accuracy.
  • Take a SEBI Grade A free mock test. The free SEBI Grade A mocks let you check where you stand before you spend anything.
  • Try a demo before buying. The ixamBee SEBI Grade A course page offers a free demo. Its FAQ says the demo lasts 48 hours from activation.
  • Build the reading habit. Reading economy, finance and regulation news costs nothing. It feeds Paper 1 essays as well as the interview.

A free plan still needs a routine. Read one regulator document each week. Attempt one past paper section every weekend. Type one descriptive answer each day, even without feedback. Keep a single sheet of weak topics, and review it every Sunday.

Check whether coaching is needed for SEBI Grade A

Is coaching needed for SEBI Grade A? Not always. SEBI’s documents, past papers and free mocks cost nothing, so many candidates start without it. Coaching helps most when you lack a structure for your stream paper or when nobody evaluates your writing.

Self-study works if you already hold strong stream knowledge and write well under time pressure. Test yourself with free mocks first. If your stream paper scores stay low, paid coverage makes sense. If your Paper 1 writing scores stay low, pay for evaluation instead of the whole syllabus. Ask one question before any purchase: which gap does this package close? Write that gap down. If the answer stays vague, wait.

Read your free mock results before you pay

Your free mock scores tell you where to spend. Record three numbers after each attempt: your stream paper score, your Paper 1 writing quality and the time left at the end. Compare two or three attempts before you decide, because one low score can reflect a bad day.

Signal in your mocks What it suggests Where to spend
Low stream paper score Gaps in stream coverage A stream-specific package
Weak Paper 1 writing No outside feedback Evaluated descriptive practice
Poor timing Too little timed practice More mocks with analysis

Know what is worth paying for in SEBI Grade A preparation

Paid help earns its price where self-study struggles. These four areas deserve your attention first.

  • Stream-specific coverage for Paper 2. The General, Legal, IT, Research and engineering Paper 2 syllabi all differ. A structured course saves you from assembling a syllabus on your own.
  • Evaluated descriptive practice. Paper 1 is a typed descriptive English paper for everyone, and it carries its own 30% cut-off. Free resources rarely give feedback on your own answers. The ixamBee SEBI Grade A course lists five descriptive English mock tests with evaluation and feedback.
  • Mocks with analysis. The course lists 15 full-length mocks for Phase 1 Paper 1 and 10 for Phase 1 Paper 2. It adds 7 for Phase 2 Paper 2, plus chapter and section tests.
  • Doubt resolution. The course page lists live online classes for doubt clarification and interview guidance.

If you are thinking about your Phase 2 writing, read how to practise the descriptive papers first. It shows how much of that practice you can do yourself.

Find the SEBI Grade A cheapest course from listed prices

ixamBee shows these figures as discounted prices, listed as 35% off the original price, at the time of writing. They will change, so check each page before you buy.

Package Listed price (Rs) Original price (Rs) Page
SEBI Grade A IT, Phase 1 5,055 7,777 IT course page
SEBI Grade A Legal 8,305 12,777 Legal course page
SEBI Grade A IT, Exclusive 14,805 22,777 IT course page
SEBI Grade A (main course) Not shown on the page Not shown SEBI Grade A course

Among the prices shown, the IT Phase 1 package is the SEBI Grade A cheapest course. The main course page shows no price, so compare it on the day. Cheapest does not always mean best value, because packages cover different papers.

Take an Unreserved candidate who applies for one stream and buys the IT Phase 1 package. That candidate pays Rs 5,055 for the course. The application costs Rs 1,000 plus 18% GST, which is Rs 1,180. The total comes to Rs 6,235.

A second stream adds another Rs 1,180 for the application and another Paper 2 to prepare. Packages differ in what they cover, so treat this as a method for adding up cost, not a recommendation.

Follow a simple way to decide your SEBI Grade A budget

  1. Start free for two weeks. Read the notification and handout, attempt a past paper and two free mocks, and take the demo.
  1. Look at your scores by section. If Paper 1 writing and your stream paper both score low, evaluated practice is where money helps most.
  1. Pay for the gap, not the whole syllabus. If one area is weak, pick the package that covers it instead of the largest one.
  1. Re-check prices and inclusions on the day. Packages and discounts change, and the same stream can appear in more than one package.

Avoid these money mistakes in SEBI Grade A preparation

Budget plans usually fail in small ways. Watch for these eight.

  • Buying the largest package before you test your level.
  • Applying for two streams without a clear reason.
  • Forgetting the 18% GST when you add up the application fee.
  • Skipping the demo and free mocks.
  • Paying for mocks, then never reviewing the analysis.
  • Chasing discounts without checking what the package includes.
  • Relying on one free resource, so your practice stays narrow.
  • Leaving descriptive practice for the last month.
