The Bank of Maharashtra has announced a fresh recruitment drive for Generalist Officers in Scale II. If you’ve been working in the banking sector and are thinking about moving into a bigger role, this might be the right time to make that jump. The bank, which runs over 2,600 branches across India, is searching for officers who can take charge of branch operations, lead teams, and help the business grow in the right direction.

Applications are now open and will be accepted from 13 August 2025 until 30 August 2025. The whole process will be online, so you can apply from anywhere, as long as you meet the requirements.

How Many Positions Are Available?

There are 500 permanent posts up for grabs. These openings are spread across different categories: SC, ST, OBC, EWS, and UR. The bank has also kept a certain number of places reserved for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities. This ensures the opportunity reaches a wide range of candidates, in line with government norms.

Who Can Apply?

The eligibility is fairly clear. You need to have at least a Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline, with a minimum of 60% marks overall. If you belong to a reserved category (SC/ST/OBC/PwBD), the cut-off is 55%. Chartered Accountants are also welcome to apply. Having an additional qualification such as CMA, CFA, ICWA, or even passing JAIIB or CAIIB, can work in your favour.

You must also bring experience to the table — three years as an officer in a scheduled public or private sector bank. If you’ve worked in credit handling, branch management, or a similar field, that’s a big plus.

For age, the lower limit is 22 years and the upper limit is 35 years as of 31 July 2025. Government relaxations apply for reserved categories.

What Does the Job Involve?

This is a leadership position, so expect a mix of responsibilities. You’ll be overseeing daily operations, but also thinking ahead about targets and growth. Here’s what a typical workload might look like:

  • Keeping the branch running smoothly on all fronts.
  • Working with teams to hit business goals.
  • Checking credit proposals and monitoring loan performance.
  • Making sure all customer records and KYC requirements are in order.
  • Building good relationships with clients and resolving any issues that come up.

It’s a role that blends decision-making with people management. You’ll be the person making sure the branch not only meets expectations but exceeds them.

The Selection Process

The bank will first conduct an online examination, followed by an interview for those who qualify. The exam will carry 150 marks and the interview 100 marks. For the final ranking, your exam and interview scores will be weighted in a 75:25 ratio.

You’ll need to score at least 50% in each stage if you’re from the UR/EWS category, and 45% if you belong to SC/ST/OBC/PwBD.

The test will have four parts — English, quantitative aptitude, reasoning, and professional knowledge — with a total duration of two hours. There’s a small penalty for wrong answers, so guesswork should be kept in check.

How to Apply

Everything happens online through www.bankofmaharashtra.in. You’ll register first, get your provisional ID and password, fill in your details, upload your documents, and then make the payment.

The application fee is ₹1,180 for UR/EWS/OBC candidates and ₹118 for SC/ST/PwBD. Payments can only be made online.

Posting, Bond, and Career Growth

If selected, you could be posted anywhere in India. The probation period is six months, and you’ll need to sign a service bond of ₹2 lakh agreeing to work for at least two years.

The bank has a solid promotion policy. Perform well, and you could climb to senior management roles in a relatively short time. You’ll also get allowances like DA, HRA or lease rental, medical benefits, and other perks depending on where you’re posted.

Why This Could Be Your Next Big Step

Working as a Scale II officer at the Bank of Maharashtra is not just about a steady paycheck. It’s a respected role in a trusted public sector bank, where you’ll have the authority to make decisions and the responsibility to drive growth. If you’re ready for the challenge, now is the time to apply.
