Application of IELTS in Various Countries

International English Language Testing System or IELTS is conducted in various places just to test candidates’ English Language skills for those who are interested in moving to other countries for various employment/educational/migration purposes. IELTS provides results on the basis of a ‘band’ system depicting certain scores and these are acceptable across the globe in around 140 nations. There are various coaching institutes in India itself that provide guidance related to IELTS and also conduct the tests at various dates according to the schedule. Candidates can also pick a suitable date accordingly. There are various countries that accept IELTS score and conduct the test. The list of countries is as follows:

IELTS in United States of America

Over 3000 institutions in the US accept IELTS scores. Some of them accept IELTS alone for admissions while some require an additional exam (such as GRE). Some of the top universities requiring an IELTS score are –

4. Massachusetts Institute of Technology

The minimum IELTS score is 6.5 to 7 in these Universities. There are exceptions. For instance, Graduate School of Journalism at Columbia University requires an 8.5.

IELTS in United Kingdom

For academic purpose, some of the top Universities accepting IELTS in UK are –

3. Imperial College, London
4. King’s College, London
5. University of Manchester
6. University of Oxford
7. London School of Economics

The minimum IELTS score is 6 to 7 in these Universities. 

For immigration purposes, IELTS is accepted in UK with a minimum score requirement of 7 for a Tier 1 (General) Visa.  

IELTS in Australia

For academic purpose, some of the top Universities accepting IELTS in Australia are – 

1. Monash University
2. University of Melbourne
3. University of Sydney
4. Australian National University

For immigration purposes, IELTS is accepted in Australia with a minimum score requirement of 8 for Points Tested Skills Visas that gives 20 points while 7 is required for Points Tested Skills Visas that gives 10 points.

IELTS in Canada

IELTS is most popular for people looking to migrate to Canada. Apart from using IELTS for studying in Canada, the criteria to move to Canada using is – 8777 (LRWS) for CLB 9 (Canadian Language benchmarks) and 8.5,8,7.5,7.5 for CLB 10. Higher IELTS score boosts the CRS score, or Comprehensive Ranking System score, thus, increasing chances of visa and migration.

An alternate exam to IELTS is the CELPIP (Canadian English language Proficiency Index Program)
