Question
‘D’ alone can complete a task in 20 days. ‘E’ is
40% less efficient than ‘D’. They worked together for 5 days, after which ‘D’ stopped working. What percentage of the total work was completed by ‘E’?Solution
ATQ,
Let the efficiency of ‘D’ be ‘5x’ units/day
So, efficiency of ‘E’ = 5x × (3/5) = ‘3x’ units/day
Total work = 20 × 5x = ‘100x’ units
Work done by ‘D’ in 5 days = 5x × 5 = ‘25x’ units
Work done by ‘E’ in 5 days = 3x × 5 = ‘15x’ units
Total work done in 5 days = 40x
Remaining work = 100x – 40x = ‘60x’ units
Work done by ‘E’ alone = 60x units
Total work by ‘E’ = 15x + 60x = 75x
Required percentage = {(75x/100x) × 100} = 75%
