    start the task and after 15 days ‘y’ more women join, ensuring the remaining work is completed in another 15 days, find the value of ‘y’. (All women have the same efficiency)

    Solution

    Total work = 36 women × 20 days = 720 units Work completed by 18 women in 15 days = 18 women × 15 days = 270 units  Remaining work to be completed by (18 + y) women = 720 – 270 = 450 units Therefore, (18 + y) × 15 = 450 Or, 18 + y = 450 / 15 Or, 18 + y = 30 Or, y = 30 – 18 = 12 Number of women added = 12
