Question

In each of the following questions, there are two equations. You have to solve both equations and mark the correct answer.

I. x2 – 10x + 21 = 0

II. y2 + 11y + 28 = 0

A if x>y Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B if x Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C if x≥y Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D if x≤y Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

Solution

I. x2– 10x + 21 =0 => x2- 7x - 3x + 21 = 0 => x(x - 7) - 3(x - 7) = 0 => (x - 7) (x - 3) = 0 => x = 7, 3 II. y2+ 11y + 28 =0 => y2+ 7y + 4y + 28 = 0 => y(y + 7) + 4(y + 7) = 0 => (y + 7) (y + 4) = 0 => y = -7, -4 Hence, x > y.
