Question
‘C’ is 20% less productive compared to ‘B’, who
is 25% more productive than ‘A’. Together, they finish a job in 40 days. After ‘A’ and ‘B’ have worked for 30 days, they stop. How long will ‘C’ take to finish the remaining work alone?Solution
Let efficiency of ‘B’ is ‘x’ units per day
Efficiency of ‘C’ = 0.80 × x = 0.8x units per day
Efficiency of ‘A’ = x / 1.25 = 0.8x units per day
Total work = (x + 0.8x + 0.8x) × 40 = 104x units
Work done by ‘A’ and ‘B’ in 30 days = (x + 0.8x) × 30 = 54x units
Remaining work = 104x – 54x = 50x units
Desired time = 50x / 0.8x = 62.5 days
