    Question

‘C’ is 20% less productive compared to ‘B’, who

is 25% more productive than ‘A’. Together, they finish a job in 40 days. After ‘A’ and ‘B’ have worked for 30 days, they stop. How long will ‘C’ take to finish the remaining work alone?
A 40 days Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B 60 days Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C 80 days Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D 50 days Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
E 62.5 days Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

Let efficiency of ‘B’ is ‘x’ units per day
    Efficiency of ‘C’ = 0.80 × x = 0.8x units per day
    Efficiency of ‘A’ = x / 1.25 = 0.8x units per day
    Total work = (x + 0.8x + 0.8x) × 40 = 104x units
    Work done by ‘A’ and ‘B’ in 30 days = (x + 0.8x) × 30 = 54x units
    Remaining work = 104x – 54x = 50x units
    Desired time = 50x / 0.8x = 62.5 days
