Question
20 men can finish a work in 12 days by working 7 hours
a day. How many more men are needed to finish the work in 10 days by working 8 hours a day?Solution
Let the efficiency of a man be 'x' units/day. Let number of extra men needed to finish the work be 'y'. ATQ; Total work = (20 + y) × x × 10 × 8 = 20 × x × 12 × 7 Or, 20 + y = 21 So, y = 21 − 20 = 1 Therefore, the number of extra men required = y = 1
