Question
Pooja can finish a task by herself in 12 days, while when
working together, Manju and Pooja can complete the same task in 6 days. Manju starts the work alone but leaves after 4 days, after which Pooja completes the remaining work on her own. If the total payment for completing the work under this arrangement is Rs. 8,400, how much of this amount does Manju receive?Solution
ATQ;
Let the total work = L.C.M of 12 and 6 = 12 units
Then, efficiency of 'Pooja' alone = 12 ÷ 12 = 1 unit/day
Combined efficiency of 'Manju' and 'Pooja' = 12 ÷ 6 = 2 units/day
So, efficiency of 'Manju' alone = 2 - 1 = 1 unit/day
Work done by 'Manju' alone in 4 days = 1 × 4 = 4 units
So, payment received by 'Manju' = (4/12) × 8400 = Rs. 2,800
