    Three Typists Axe, Wye and Zed working together 3 hours

    per day and can type 720 pages in 12 days. In a day Wye types as many pages more than Axe as Zed types as many pages more than Wye. The number of pages typed by Axe in 9 hours equal to the number of pages typed by Zed in 3 hours. How many pages Zed types in each hour?

    Solution

    Workdone by all 3 in 1 hr = 720/(12*3) = 720/36 = 20pages

    So A+Z+W = 20 ---(1)
    As per the Q, W - A = Z - W
    or 2W = A+Z
    Putting this in equation (1),
    2W+W = 20
    3W = 20
    or W = 20/3 pages in 1 hr
    Now putting this value in equation (1) again,
    A+Z+(20/3) = 20
    A+Z = 20 - (20/3) = 40/3 ---(2)
    and also as per the Question, A*9 = Z*3 or A/Z = 3/9 = 1/3 ---(3)
    Using (2) (3), we will get
    A = 10/3 and Z = 10
    Hence Zed can type 10 pages in 1 hour
