Question
A mixture contains 80 ml water and rest ‘x’ ml milk.
When 0.25x ml of water is added to the mixture, the quantity of water becomes 1/3rd of the mixture. Find the value of ‘x’.Solution
According to the question,
Quantity of water after addition of 0.25x ml water = (80 + 0.25x)
Total quantity of the mixture = 80 + 0.25x + x = (80 + 1.25x)
Therefore,
(1/3)(80 + 1.25x) = (80 + 0.25x)
Or, 80 + 1.25x = 240 + 0.75x
Or, 0.5x = 160
Or, x = 320
