    Question

    ‘A’ is 25% less efficient than ‘B’, and ‘C’

is 75% more efficient than ‘B’. All three together complete a task in 32 days. After ‘A’ and ‘B’ work together for 16 days, they stop. How long will ‘C’ take to finish the remaining work?
A 24 days Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B 16 days Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C 20 days Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D 18 days Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
E 48 days Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

    Let efficiency of ‘B’ = x units/day
    Efficiency of ‘A’ = 0.75x units/day
    Efficiency of ‘C’ = 1.75x units/day Total work = (x + 0.75x + 1.75x) × 32 = 3.5x × 32 = 112x units Work done by ‘A’ and ‘B’ in 16 days = (x + 0.75x) × 16 = 1.75x × 16 = 28x units Remaining work = 112x – 28x = 84x units Time required by ‘C’ = 84x / 1.75x = 48 days
