      Question

Three mixtures, containing mixture of sugar to water in

the ratio of 7:2, 9:3 and 5:1 are mixed in equal proportion and a new mixture is formed. If the volume of mixture thus formed is 324 litres, then find the quantity of sugar in the resulting mixture.
A 272 lit Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B 245 lit Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C 255 lit Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D 234 lit Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

      Solution

Let the volume of each mixture taken out be 36 litres

Ratio of sugar to water in the resulting mixture =
      (7/9 Γ— 36 + 9/12 Γ— 36 + 5/6 Γ— 36):(2/9 Γ— 36 + 3/12 Γ— 36 + 1/6 Γ— 36)
      = (28 + 27 + 30):(8 + 9 + 6) = 85:23

      Desired volume of sugar = 85/108 Γ— 324 = 255 litres
