Question
How much groundnut powder at Rs. 90 a kg. should be
added to 56 kg. of cashew powder at Rs.310 a kg. so that by selling the mixture for Rs. 280 a kg, a person will gain 12% profit?Solution
C.P. of the mixture = 280 × 100/112= 250 a kg. By Alligation rule:(Quantity of cheaper)/(Quantity of dearer)= (d - m)/(m - c) = (310 - 250)/(250-90) = 60/160 ∴ Required ratio = 3:8 Therefore, when cashew powder is 56 kg, groundnut powder should be = 56 × 3/8 = 21 kg.
