      Question

Train 'P' has 18 coaches and an engine. Length of each

coach and engine of train 'P' is 30 metres and 60 metres respectively. Another train 'Q' has 12 coaches and an engine. Length of each coach of train 'P' is 20% more than that of train 'Q', and length of engines of both trains is the same. Time taken by trains 'P' and 'Q', while moving in the same direction, to cross each other is 24 seconds. If speed of train 'P' is 48 m/s and speed of train 'Q' is (x - 2) m/s, then find the value of (6x + 5) . (Given that speed of train 'Q' is less than that of train 'P').
A 60 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B 63 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C 65 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D 72 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
E None of these Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

      Solution

      Length of train 'P' = 18 x 30 + 60 = 600 metres Length of each coach of train 'Q' = 30/1.2 = 25 metres Length of train 'Q' = 12 x 25 + 60 = 360 metres Relative speed of trains = 48 - (x - 2) = 50 - x m/s According to question, 50 - x = (600 + 360)/24 Or, 50 - x = 960/24 Or, 50 - x = 40 Or, x = 10 Required value = 6 x 10 + 5 = 60 + 5 = 65
