Question
A train can cross a pole in 20 seconds while it can
cross a 480 metres long platform in 56 seconds. Find the time (in hours) taken by the train to cover a distance of 864 km if the train increased its speed by 20%.Solution
Let speed of train is 'x' m/s while length of the train is 'l' metres.
So, l = 20x And, l + 480 = 56x
Or, 20x + 480 = 56x
Or, 36x = 480
Or, x = 40/3
So, Speed of train = (40/3) Γ 18/5 = 48 km/h
Desired time = 864/(1.20 Γ 48) = 15.0 hours
