    Question

A pedestrian walking at 6 km/h is overtaken by a train

running at three times the speed of the pedestrian. If it takes 9 seconds to cross him, find the train’s length.
    A 30 m Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
    B 25 m Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
    C 40 m Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
    D 22 m Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

    ATQ,

    Speed of the pedestrian = 6 × (5/18) = 1.67 m/s

    So, speed of the train = 1.67 × 3 = 5.01 m/s

Let the length of the train be 'x' metres

    ATQ:

    x / (5.01 - 1.67) = 9

    So, x = 30

Length of the train = 30 metres
