Question

    Two cyclists ‘X’ and ‘Y’ start from towns ‘M’

    and ‘N’ respectively towards each other at the same time. When they meet after 6 hours, cyclist ‘Y’ has covered 90 km more than ‘X’. If the total distance between the towns is 450 km, what distance was covered by ‘X’ in 4 hours?
    A 190 km Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
    B 160 km Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
    C 140 km Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
    D 120 km Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
    E None of these Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

    ATQ,

    Let distance travelled by cyclist ‘X’ at the time of meet = x km

    So, distance travelled by cyclist ‘Y’ at the time of meet = x + 90 km

    According to question;

    x + x + 90 = 450

    Or, 2x = 360

    Or, x = 180

    Distance travelled by cyclist ‘X’ in 6 hours = 180 km

    Speed of cyclist ‘X’ = 180 / 6 = 30 km/h

    Distance travelled by cyclist ‘X’ in 4 hours = 30 × 4 = 120 km
