    • Question

X can do a piece of work in 26 days. He worked at it for

13 days and then Y finished it in 10 days. In how many days can X and Y together finish the work?
A 10 days Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B 15 days Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C 12 days Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D 13 days Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
E None of these Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

      Solution

      X’s 13 day work = 13/26 = 1/2.
      Remaining work = 1 – 1/2 = 1/2
This work was done by Y in 10 days.
Y does 1/2th of the work in 10 days, he will finish the work in 10 × 2/1 = 20 days.
      X & Y together would take 1/20 + 1/20 = 2/20 = 1/10 i.e. 10 days to complete the work.
