Probability of white ball= a/(5 + a + b) a/(5 + a + b) = 2/7 5a – 2b = 10 …………(1) Probability of purple = b/(5 + a + b) = 5/14 9b – 5a = 25 ………….(2) From (1) and (2) we get a = 4 b = 5 Therefore sum will be (a + b) = (4 + 5) = 9
