Question
A certain mixture
‘B’ contains juice and soda in the ratio 3:2 respectively. If 9 litres of juice and 6 litres of soda are added to it, the new ratio of juice to soda becomes 6:5. What was the initial quantity of mixture ‘B’?Solution
ATQ,
Let the quantity of juice and soda in mixture ‘B’ initially be ‘3x’ litres and ‘2x’ litres respectively. According to the question, (3x + 9) / (2x + 6) = 6 / 5 ⇒ 5 × (3x + 9) = 6 × (2x + 6) ⇒ 15x + 45 = 12x + 36 ⇒ x = 3 So, total quantity of mixture ‘B’, initially = 3x + 2x = 5x = 5 × 3 = 15 litres
