Question

A solution contains sugar and water in the ratio of 3:2.

After removing 15 ml of this solution and adding 12 ml of sugar, the new ratio becomes 5:2. What was the original amount of the solution?
A 57 ml Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B 33 ml Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C 69 ml Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D 84 ml Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
E None of these Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

    ATQ,

    Let the quantity of sugar and water after removing 15 ml of the solution be '3x' ml and '2x' ml, respectively. So, sugar after adding 12 ml = (3x + 12) ml ATQ, {(3x + 12) / 2x} = 5/2 ⇒ 6x + 24 = 10x ⇒ 10x - 6x = 24 ⇒ x = 6 So, required quantity of the mixture = 3×6 + 2×6 + 15 = 57 ml
