Question
A 48 litres mixture of milk and water contains them in the
ratio 3:1. After removing 12 litres of the mixture and replacing it with ‘x’ litres of water, the resulting mixture has water to milk ratio of 1:1. What is the value of ‘x’?Solution
ATQ,
Quantity of remaining mixture = 48 – 12 = 36 litres
Quantity of milk in 36 litres of mixture = 36 × (3/4) = 27 litres
And, quantity of water in 36 litres = 36 – 27 = 9 litres
So, quantity of water in resultant mixture = (1/1) × 27 = 27 litres
Required quantity of water added = 27 – 9 = 18 litres
So, x = 18
