    Question

A solution of milk and water has (x + 30) litres of milk,

which is (x + 20) litres less than the water. If the water content is 100 litres, calculate the ratio of milk to water.
A 27:19 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B 25:11 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C 11:20 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D 33:12 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

    ATQ,

    Quantity of water in the mixture = x + 30 + x + 20 = (2x + 50) litres

    Therefore, 2x + 50 = 100

    Or, 2x = 50

    Or, x = 25

    Therefore, quantity of milk in the mixture = x + 30 = 55 litres

    Required ratio = 55 : 100 = 11 : 20
