Question
Quantity of water in a 350 litres mixture (alcohol +
water) is 22 litres less than the quantity of alcohol in it. Find the quantity of water to be mixed so that the quantity of alcohol in the mixture becomes 40% of the whole mixture.Solution
Quantity of water in the mixture = (350 β 22)/2 = 164 litres So, Quantity of alcohol in the mixture = (350 β 164) = 186 litres Total quantity of the mixture = 186 x (100/40) = 465 litres Therefore, quantity of water to be mixed = 465 β 350 = 115 litres
