Question
A mixture contains milk and water in the ratio of 3:2
respectively. If 50 litres of milk and 50 litres of water are added to this mixture, then respective ratio of milk and water changes to 10:7, respectively. Find the initial quantity of the mixture. STSolution
Let, amount of milk and water in mixture be 3x litres and 2x litres respectively. According to question, ⇒ (3x + 50): (2x + 50) = 10:7 ⇒ 21x + 350 = 20x + 500 ⇒ 21x – 20x = 500 – 350 ⇒ x = 150 So, initial quantity of mixture = 150 × (2 + 3) = 750 litres
