At present, the ages of ‘T’ and ‘U’ are in the

ratio 6:7. Eight years from now, the ratio of their ages will become 7:8. What was T’s age 10 years ago?
A 28 yrs Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B 13 yrs Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C 38 yrs Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D None of these Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

      Solution

      ATQ,

Let present ages of T and U be 6x and 7x.

      ATQ:

      (6x + 8)/(7x + 8) = 7/8

      ⇒ 8(6x + 8) = 7(7x + 8)

      ⇒ 48x + 64 = 49x + 56

      ⇒ x = 8

      So, present age of T = 6x = 48 years

      T’s age 10 years ago = 48 – 10 = 38 years
