Question
Four years ago, the ratio of ages of 'P' and 'Q' was 5:6.
Six years from now, their ages will be in the ratio 7:8. Find the present age of 'Z' who is 4 years younger than 'Q'.Solution
ATQ,
Let the age of 'P' and 'Q', four years ago be '5a' and '6a' years, respectively.
So, (5a + 4 + 6) : (6a + 4 + 6) = 7 : 8
Or, 8 × (5a + 10) = 7 × (6a + 10)
Or, 40a + 80 = 42a + 70
Or, 2a = 10
So, a = 5
Required age = 6 × 5 + 4 - 4 = 30 years
