Question
Speed of two trains 'A' and 'B' is 22 m/s and ___ m/s
respectively. Length of 'B' and 'A' is ___ metres and 330 metres, respectively. Time taken by the trains to cross each other when moving in same direction is 45 seconds. The data given in which among the given options will fill the blank in the same order so as to make the statement true? I. 29, 250 II. 32, 120 III. 10, 210Solution
Statement I: Relative speed = 29 - 22 = 7 m/s
Sum of length of both the trains = 250 + 330 = 580 metres
Time taken to cross each other = (580/7) ≈ 82.9 seconds So, statement I is false. Statement II: Relative speed = 32 - 22 = 10 m/s
Sum of length of both the trains = 120 + 330 = 450 metres
Time taken to cross each other = (450/10) = 45 seconds So, statement II is true. Statement III: Relative speed = 22 - 10 = 12 m/s
Sum of length of both the trains = 210 + 330 = 540 metres
Time taken to cross each other = (540/12) = 45 seconds So, statement III is true. Therefore, both statement II and III are true. Hence, option C.
