      Question

There are two trains A and B. A start from point

X at 6 AM towards point Y. Another train B starts at 7 AM from point X. If they meet at 12 PM and speed of A is 20 km/hr, while that of B is 40 km/hr. Find distance between X and Y.
A 320 km Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B 344 km Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C 304 km Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D 305 km Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
E 344 km Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

      Solution

      Speed of train A = 20 kmph
      Speed of train B = 40 kmph
Time taken by train A to meet train B at 12 PM = 6 hrs
Time taken by train B to meet train A at 12 PM = 5 hrs
      Distance travelled by train A = 6 × 20 = 120 km
      Distance travelled by train B = 5 × 40 = 200 km
      Therefore, total distance between X and Y = 120 + 200 = 320 km
