Question
A train takes 22 seconds to cross a platform and 9
seconds to cross a pole. If the length of the train is 50 metres less than the length of the platform, then find the length of the platform.Solution
ATQ, Let the speed of the train be ‘x’ m/s. Length of the train = 9 × x = ‘9x’ metres So, length of the platform = (9x + 50) metres ATQ; (9x + 50 + 9x) ÷ 22 = x Or, 18x + 50 = 22x Or, 50 = 4x So, x = 12.5 Therefore, length of the platform = (12.5 × 9) + 50 = 162.5 metres
