Question
Two trains start at the same time from Patna and Delhi
and proceed toward each other at the speed of 120 km/hr and 60 km/hr respectively. When they meet, it is found that one train has travelled 600 km more than the other. Find the distance between Patna and Delhi.Solution
Difference between speed of train from Patna (P) and that of Delhi (D) = 60 km/hr That means P runs 60 km more than D in 1 hour. Therefore, P must have run 600km more than D in 10 hrs. That means both the trains have run for 10 hrs, when they met. Distance covered by P in 10 hrs = Speed × Time = 120 × 10=1200 km. Distance covered by D in 10 hrs = Speed x Time = 60 × 10= 600 km. ∴ Total Distance between Patna and Delhi = 1200 + 600 = 1800 km.
