Question
A car owner in Australia plans to travel India with his
family. He drives from his home to the airport at an average speed of 20 mph. He flew from the airport to the airport of India at an average speed of 50 mph and then took a cab to reach hotel at an average speed of 25 mph. It took 7(3/10) hours for the entire trip. The entire distance covered by him was 250 miles. Distance from airport of India to the hotel is 40 miles. Find the distance between both the airports.Solution
Let the distance between his home to airport of Australia is = x Then distance between both the airports = 250 – (x + 40) = 210 – x x/20 + (210 – x)/50 + 40/25 = 7(3/10)` ` (5x + 420 – 2x + 160)/100 = 7(3/10) 3x + 580 = 730 3x = 150 x = 50 miles So distance between both the airports = 210 – x = 210 – 50 = 160 miles
