    • Question

      In a 1,200-meter race between 'A' and 'B', 'A' gives 'B' a

head start of 48 meters. Both 'A' and 'B' finish the race simultaneously. If 'B's speed is 6 m/s, what is the speed of 'A'?
      A 6.25 m/sec Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
      B 7/5 m/sec Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
      C 8 m/sec Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D None of these Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

      Solution

      Distance covered by 'A' = 1,200 metres

      Distance covered by 'B' = 1200 - 48 = 1,152 metres

Since, both 'A' and 'B' takes same time to finish the race.

So, the time is constant, which means,

      Speed ∝ Distance

So, the ratio of speed of 'A' to that of 'B' = (Distance covered by 'A') :(Distance covered by 'B') = 1200:1152 = 25:24

      So, the speed of 'A' = (25/24) X 6 = 6.25 m/s
