Question
In a 2 km race, 'X' allows 'Y' a lead of 400 metres, but still beats him by 200 metres. If 'Y' finishes the race in 20 minutes, how much time does 'X' take to finish?
Solution
ATQ,
Distance covered by 'Y' when 'X' covers 2000 m = 2000 - 400 - 200 = 1400 m
Ratio of speeds (X : Y) = 2000 : 1400 = 10 : 7
Time ratio = 7 : 10
Time taken by X = (20/10) Γ 7 = 14 minutes
