    Question

Three numbers ‘A’, ‘B’ and ‘C’ are such that

‘A’ is one-fifth of ‘B’ and ‘C’ is equal to the average of ‘A’ and ‘B’. If the sum of these three numbers is 720, then find the sum of ‘A’ and ‘C’.
A 180 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B 240 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C 320 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D 400 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

    Let the value of ‘B’ be ‘10x’ So, value of ‘A’ = 10x/5 = ‘2x’ So, value of ‘C’ = (10x + 2x)/2 = 12x/2 = ‘6x’ ATQ; 2x + 10x + 6x = 720 Or, 18x = 720 Or, x = 40 So, the sum of ‘A’ and ‘C’ = 2x + 6x = 8x = 8 × 40 = 320
