Three numbers βAβ, βBβ and βCβ are such that βAβ is one-fifth of βBβ and βCβ is equal to the average of βAβ and βBβ. If the sum of these three numbers is 720, then find the sum of βAβ and βCβ.
Solution
Let the value of βBβ be β10xβ So, value of βAβ = 10x/5 = β2xβ So, value of βCβ = (10x + 2x)/2 = 12x/2 = β6xβ ATQ; 2x + 10x + 6x = 720 Or, 18x = 720 Or, x = 40 So, the sum of βAβ and βCβ = 2x + 6x = 8x = 8 Γ 40 = 320
