Pipes A and B fill a tank in 10 hours and 15 hours

respectively. Pipe C empties it in ‘x’ hours. All three can fill the tank together in 12 hours. Find the value of ‘x’.
A 10 hours Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B 12 hours Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C 15 hours Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D 18 hours Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
E 20 hours Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

      Solution

Let the capacity of the tank = 60 liters (LCM of 10, 15, and 12)
      Amount of water filled by pipe A in one hour = 60 ÷ 10 = 6 liters
      Amount of water filled by pipe B in one hour = 60 ÷ 15 = 4 liters
      Amount of water filled by pipes A, B and C together in one hour = 60 ÷ 12 = 5 liters
      Amount of water taken by pipe C alone in one hour = 6 + 4 – 5 = 5 liters
      Time taken by pipe C alone to empty the tank = 60 ÷ 5 = 12 hours
