Question
Ravi spends 20% of his income on house rent, 30% on
groceries, 50% of the remaining on entertainment, and saves the rest. If the amount spent on groceries is Rs. 9,000, then find his savings.Solution
ATQ, Let the total income of Ravi be Rs. β100mβ
Amount spent on rent = 0.20 Γ 100m = Rs. β20mβ
Amount spent on groceries = 0.30 Γ 100m = Rs. β30mβ
Remaining income = 100m β 20m β 30m = Rs. β50mβ
Amount spent on entertainment = 0.5 Γ 50m = Rs. β25mβ
Savings = 50m β 25m = Rs. β25mβ
Now, 30m = 9,000
Or, m = 300
Therefore, savings = 25m = 25 Γ 300 = Rs. 7,500
