Question
Ravi spends 20% of his income on house rent, 30% on
groceries, 50% of the remaining on entertainment, and saves the rest. If the amount spent on groceries is Rs. 9,000, then find his savings.Solution
ATQ, Let the total income of Ravi be Rs. ‘100m’
Amount spent on rent = 0.20 × 100m = Rs. ‘20m’
Amount spent on groceries = 0.30 × 100m = Rs. ‘30m’
Remaining income = 100m − 20m − 30m = Rs. ‘50m’
Amount spent on entertainment = 0.5 × 50m = Rs. ‘25m’
Savings = 50m − 25m = Rs. ‘25m’
Now, 30m = 9,000
Or, m = 300
Therefore, savings = 25m = 25 × 300 = Rs. 7,500
