Question
A coaching institute had 4800 students in 2019, out of
which 55% were boys and the rest were girls. In 2020, the number of boys rose by 20% and the number of girls fell by 15%. What was the percentage change in the total number of students in 2020 compared to 2019?Solution
ATQ,
Number of boys in 2019 = 4800 × 0.55 = 2640
Number of girls in 2019 = 4800 - 2640 = 2160
Number of boys in 2020 = 2640 × 1.20 = 3168
Number of girls in 2020 = 2160 × 0.85 = 1836
Total students in 2020 = 3168 + 1836 = 5004
So, percentage change in total students = {(5004 - 4800) / 4800} × 100 = 4.25%
