Question
In a hotel, the monthly usage of Mixed Spices is 8 kg,
and the cost per kilogram of Mixed Spices is Rs. 'a'. If the price per kilogram increases by  and the consumption decreases by 25%, the total expenditure on Mixed Spices reduces by Rs. 60. Calculate the initial total expenditure on Mixed Spices.Solution
ATQ, Initial total expenditure on Mixed Spices = 8 × a = Rs.’8a’ When per kg cost of Mixed Spices is increased by 11(1/9)% and consumption of Mixed Spices is decreased by 25%. Per kg cost of Mixed Spices = a * (1000/900) = Rs. (10a/9) Consumption of Mixed Spices = 75% of 8 = 6 kg So, new total expenditure on Mixed Spices = 6 × (10a/9) = Rs. (20a/3) From the question: 8a – (20a/3) = 60 a = 45 So, initial total expenditure on Mixed Spices = 8 × 45 = Rs.360
