Question
Two friends, P and Q, each have the same amount saved. Q
manages to save one-fourth of his income, while P saves one-third of his. Given that P spends Rs. 24,000, what is the combined total income of both P and Q?Solution
Let the saving of 'P' and 'Q' be Rs .'x' each. So, income of 'P' = (x X 3) = Rs. '3x' And, income of 'Q' = (x X 4) = Rs. '4x' ATQ, 3x - x = 24,000 (Since, Expenditure = Income - Savings) So, 'x' = (24,000/2) = 12,000 Therefore, required sum = (3x + 4x) = '7x' = 7 X 12000 = Rs. 84,000
