Question
A mixture contains 90 litres milk and rest is water.
When 30 litres milk and 18 litres water is added to the mixture, the ratio of milk to water becomes 4 : 3. Find the initial quantity of mixture.Solution
Let initial quantity of water be ‘n’ litres. So,
(90 + 30) : (n + 18) = 4 : 3 Or,
120 : (n + 18) = 4 : 3 Or,
n + 18 = 90 Or,
n = 72 Therefore, required quantity of mixture
= 90 + 72
= 162 litres
