Question

    A juice manufacturer has a 900-litre mixture of orange

    juice and water in an 8:7 ratio. If 15% of this mixture is removed and replaced with an equal amount of water, what is the new ratio of orange juice to water in the final mixture?
    A 6:7 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
    B 7:11 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
    C 4:5 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
    D 5:11 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

    ATQ;
    Quantity of orange juice in the solution = (8/15) × 900 = 480 litres
    Quantity of water in the solution = (900 – 480) = 420 litres
    Quantity of solution taken out = (0.15 × 900) = 135 litres
    New ratio = {480 – (480 × 0.15)} : {420 – (420 × 0.15) + 135}
    = 408 : 477
    = 24:28
    = 6:7
