Question
The ratio of Amit’s and Bhanu’s ages will be 33:26
after 12 years. The current average age of Amit, Bhanu, and Charu is 53 years. Charu’s present age is 30% more than Amit’s age 4 years ago. Find the current age ratio of Bhanu to Charu.Solution
ATQ,
Let Amit, Bhanu and Charu can be defined as A, B and C respectively.
The ages of A and B after 12 years will be 33x years and 26x years, respectively. So, their present ages are: A = 33x – 12 years B = 26x – 12 years The present age of C is: 53 × 3 – [(33x – 12) + (26x – 12)] = 183 – 59x years According to the condition: 1.3 × [(33x – 12) – 4] = 183 – 59x → 42.9x – 20.8 = 183 – 59x → 101.9x = 203.8 → x = 2 Thus: Present age of B = 26 × 2 – 12 = 40 years Present age of C = 183 – 59 × 2 = 65 years Required ratio = 40 : 65 = 8 : 13
