Question
Out of the total income, Meena spends 18% on groceries and
12% on rent. She spends 30% of the remaining income on travel. Then, she spends 25% of the now remaining income on shopping and saves the rest. If the amount spent on rent is Rs. 3,600, find her savings.Solution
ATQ,
Let the income of Meena be Rs. 100n
Amount spent on groceries = 0.18 × 100n = Rs. 18n
Amount spent on rent = 0.12 × 100n = Rs. 12n
Remaining income = 100n - 18n - 12n = Rs. 70n
Amount spent on travel = 0.30 × 70n = Rs. 21n
Now remaining income = 70n - 21n = Rs. 49n
Amount spent on shopping = 0.25 × 49n = Rs. 12.25n
Savings = 49n - 12.25n = Rs. 36.75n
Now, 12n = 3,600
So, n = 300
Therefore, savings = 36.75 × 300 = Rs. 11,025
